ITG RFID Book Returns
ITG Book Drop System™ RFID-enabled book returns incorporate an RFID antenna into the modified chute of an interior or exterior in-wall return system allowing tagged items to be checked in as they are returned. ITG Book Returns™ software updates the library's database in real time as materials are deposited in the return drop.
The system is designed to:
- Accept returned items
- Identify the items in the ILS
- Check items in
- Identify items on reserve and print "holds" tickets
- Print patron receipts (optional)
Patrons do not have to change their usual behavior in returning items. They simply deposit them in the slot. As the items slide down the return chute, an RFID antenna reads the item's tag and checks the item back into the system. This is especially effective in libraries that limit the number of items that patrons may have checked out at one time. Instead of waiting at a circulation desk to return their items, the patrons drop their items in the return and proceed immediately to the stacks to select their new materials.
ITG recommends the Kingsley KwikDrop™ RFID-enabled faceplate and chute.
