Apex RFID™ – Security

EAS Security with Optional Item Identification Functionality

Security Gates When you implement Apex RFID, security pedestals are installed at the exits for loss prevention. After you have tagged your collection, you want to be sure that patrons cannot walk out of the library with items that have not been properly checked out or should not circulate. With Apex RFID Electronic Article Security (EAS), items passing between or near the pedestals that have not been checked out properly instantaneously trigger an alarm as they pass through the detection field. Each pedestal is standalone and plug and play, and does not require a separate server for operation. The gates need not be linked to the library database. These pedestals even operate when the library network is down or overloaded.

Featuring an advanced Digital Signal Processing technology, the gates provide maximum detection speed and field, regardless of the RFID tag orientation. There is no anti-collision limit; any non-deactivated RFID tag is instantaneously detected. The pedestals also feature a robust and elegant mechanical design. Their plastic covers can be changed to another material to better match the library furniture and style. Each security aisle requires a minimum of two pedestals to function. Additional pedestals can be added in a row to provide additional aisles and an increased detection area. To save time and money, gates can be installed using portable base plates, eliminating the need to drill into the floors.

As an option, you can purchase and install ExitWatch on one or more of the computers on your network to provide staff with item information when a security pedestal’s alarm is triggered. A popup window appears on the workstation indicating the item’s bar code number and title. Communication with the library’s SIP server is required in order to display item titles onscreen.
