Each pedestal is standalone and plug and play, and does not require a separate server for operation. The gates need not be linked to the library database. These pedestals even operate when the library network is down or overloaded. Each security aisle requires a minimum of two pedestals to function. The library has the option to install one of two modes of security, EAS (electronic article surveillance) or AFI (application family identifier).
Additional pedestals can be added in a row to provide additional aisles and an increased detection area. To save time and money, gates can be installed using portable base plates, eliminating the need to drill into the floors.
